Streetwise 2000 Wins
Two Positive Action Awards!

13th October 2009
Well done everyone for making Streetwise what it is!!

Photo: four of us and the awards

Well everyone, here is a bit of an update about an amazing night!!

Last Tuesday (13th October), the staff at Streetwise were cordially invited to an awards evening in Warrington, alongside Rick Stubbs (web designer extraordinaire). It turns out… Rick had been short-listed to win an award for his fabulous efforts as a Streetwise volunteer! Obviously, none of us could contain ourselves with the excitement… and got on our glad rags and went down to Warrington to see what it was all about!! Photo setting off from Bury before the event

When we arrived, we were greeted by red carpets and champagne (feeling like proper celebrities!) and seated at a table amongst some other people. The Warrington Disability Partnership host these events every single year to recognise the work people do in communities to help people with disabilities and mental health issues; and there were 12 awards to be delivered that evening to special individuals and organisations across the north west for all their hard work and commitment.

Photo sat round at the table before the announcementsSo there we were (just happy to be there); supping our bucks fizz and meeting some exciting new people… when the awards were called!! By award 10 (and after a very beautiful and filling meal)… they announced the award…. “RICK STUBBS- Streetwise 2000’s computer genius in shining armour!!” Ohhhh the tears came flowing. Rick got up to accept the award… with us three tailing him (Gemma, Lee and Eva) all crying; on the big stage with the lights and the cameras. Oh it was inexplicable… what a magical feeling!!

Just as we were sitting back at the table with Rick and his award, the presenter began to discuss some more familiar aspects… and we all started to look at each other with very questionable faces… and there he went again “STREETWISE 2000- Come back down!!”. We couldn’t believe it- No way!! We had to walk all the way back to the stage, we had won another award!! People were stood up and clapping for us… it really was surreal!

So… out of 12 awards, we are very proud to say we won 2. Even though we were happy with just the nomination! The night went on… the smiles and the conversation was fabulous. Everyone was very deserving of being there, and it was so great to celebrate something so positive.

If you are interested in nominating anyone for next year; there is a link on the Positive Action Awards website. This is www.positiveactionawards.org.uk

Anyway, hopefully will catch up with everyone soon!

A big well done to all the volunteers and workers at Streetwise; and to all our young people for making Streetwise so great!
